No, the patch I had supplied is the patch-to-the-patch ;))  So
you should

1) Do 'make clean' in the port's directory.
2) Apply the patch with 'patch -p1 < /path/to/the/supplied/patchfile'.
3) Build and install the port.

Sorry, I was not clear enough on how to apply the modification.
