Just a few comments on the K6-450. I use one at home and it works well in an ASUS mobo. But... It runs VERY hot. I have a good heat sink fan and the ASUS has temperature sensors so I could monitor heat dissipation. I would see the temp shoot up during a buildworld before I got a fatal error. If you have sensors, don't forget that they are usually UNDER the chip while the proper place to measure the temp is on top. While the chip is rated to 50C, I would regularly see it die at about 42C measured on the bottom. I pulled the heat sink and discovered it was dry. I applied a THIN layer of heat sink grease to the top of the chip and the bottom of the heat sink and re-assembled. Victory! NO further problems. And NEVER over-clock this chip! R.
