Hmmm.  What do you want it to do in this case?  "orphaned", to me, is
the right thing to print.  You don't have a ports tree, and therefore
(most likely) no INDEX file. The most that pkg_version can do for you is
to print out the version numbers of the installed packages, which it
does.
