You should reboot hre before you try to

that's kinda expected. However, I'd reboot before trying this with
the new kernel.

I'd reboot the new kernel and make sure uname reports armv6 for uname
-p. If it doesn't,
rebuild the kernel with TARGET=arm TARGET_ARCH=armv6 and reboot.
