I always update /etc/XF86Config manually with the values I get from xvidtune. You have to look for the right modeline (check frequencies and resolution) and then change the sync values. Just be careful, as you can probably damage your monitor by changing the wrong values. With fvwm and tkdesk, I can get a (barely) acceptable > desktop. Is there another widget or tool that I need to be able to make > folders/icons on the desktop? What do *you* do? I haven't tried it myself, but maybe fvwm95 is what you are looking for. I use tkgoodstuff myself, and it works just dandy with fvwm2.
