I MUST run vt on certain systems with Intel grahics, with drm2, to be able to swich from X to console and back (and is the current FreeBSD standard for X ports). kbdmux is mandatory in this case because X must put the keyboard in raw mode, which cannot be done with vt only (and a reason of the presence of kbdmux in GENERIC).. And I always use a non US keyboard - which IS the context of the ORIGINAL post !
