You are aware that the FreeBSD console (as shipped, using the sc0
driber) is *not* a vt100 terminal, and expecting TERM=vt100 to work
with the default console is wrong?

The vt0 driver is supposed to be a vt100, but I have not used it.
Have you switched to that driver?
