    Hmmmm... does 2.2-RELEASE have long utmp entries?  I had to relink
my xterm binary when I upgraded to 3.0-current.  If this is the same
problem, there ought to be a large caveat emptor in the README
somewhere, and an updated xterm binary in the distribution.
