I dunno, it sounds like change for the sake of change to me.  This would be
annoying in the extreme; I use infinite pings almost daily.

I would have less objection to a change making the ping run for, say,
six or eight hours before automatically shutting off.  That's long enough
(for my purposes) that I would probably never hit the auto-shutoff time,
and it still quits by itself after a while.
