Apologies. My BSD machine is 'under construction' and I'm using my
wife's Win98 machine. (I know, likely excuse...)

Ya, I would have avoided a crash if mount had simply told me
the volume didn't have a filesystem. Maybe newfs -v could
have done some checking too.
