Where did I go wrong this time, does FreeBSD >need to see the whole drive as a single device too ? They're only seperate devices in the same sense that a different partition is a different device. In both cases this is just a software abstraction. FreeBSD internally calculates an offset within the whole disk when individual slices/partitions are accessed, so the underlying whole device must be less that 1TB as well.
