GNOME 2.0 works for me, and I know there are other -CURRENT users using GNOME 2.1. Did you rebuild _everything_ from scratch? While locale shouldn't have anything to do with it at this point, you're using German, right? Have you tried C? My GNOME 2.1 machine is -stable, and German definitely works. I guess it might be nice to recompile a GTK2 app as well as all the GTK2 components with symbols, then send a back trace.
