I am having problems getting gphoto2 to work with freebsd 4.9 stable

The camera in question is a Kodak CX6200 and is listed as working with gphoto2.
The firmware version is 1.0100.

It is detected.

For debugging messages, please use the --debug option.
Debugging messages may help finding a solution to your problem.
If you intend to send any error or debug messages to the gphoto
developer mailing list <gphoto-devel@lists.sourceforge.net>, please run
gphoto2 as follows:

    env LANG=C gphoto2 --debug --debug --camera "Kodak CX6200" -P

Please make sure there is sufficient quoting around the arguments.
