UNIX System Administrator for Application Service Provider MailerMailer, an email list hosting and management service, has an immediate opening for a mid-level UNIX system administrator with at least 4 years of system administration experience (on-site, full-time, salaried position). We are seeking a self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently with little supervision, document work and processes in detail, communicate clearly, and take initiative to achieve the "big picture" goal and not just perform a task. A successful applicant will be able to demonstrate an ability to keep abreast of recent technological developments as well as showing a strong and positive team focus. Location: Rockville, Maryland Responsibilities: * Manage day to day operations and maintenance of all data and communication systems, including incident resolution of network hardware issues * Respond to alert pages from various monitoring services to help guarantee our 99.9% uptime requirement * Install patches and upgrades for existing equipment and arrange repair/replacement of broken equipment * Deal with vendors to procure new equipment * Install and configure new equipment and various software on servers and workstations, including possible ports or reconfigurations from one server to another * Scan security reports from each server for potential threats and vulnerable packages * Create system and data back-ups * Occasionally drive to co-location facility in northern Virginia to install/remove equipment (be able to safely lift and move equipment weighing 40-50 lbs on server racks) The candidate will also develop and document a systematic approach to configure, maintain, and monitor software on production servers. Additionally, the job involves developing a systematic approach to deploy and monitor our custom software to our production environment. Required Skills: A successful candidate will possess the following skills: * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Strong background in Unix system administration (FreeBSD preferred) * Strong background working with Ethernet networking, Apache, DNS, and Perl * Candidates must be local and must be eligible to work in the U.S. (Rockville, MD) More about MailerMailer: MailerMailer is a fun place to work.
