3.4-S => 3.5-S make world
3.5-S => 4.0-R make upgrade
4.0-R => 4.2-S make buildworld, make buildkernel, make installworld,
make installkernel...

Read _all_ of /usr/src/UPDATING carefully. There are some hints about
make buildworld... way down in there...
