For you to get that far (see shares on the FBSD box) you need to be able to see the box itself on Network Neighborhood. Have you achieved this. Start with a simple smb.conf e.g. ###### workgroup = "workgroup" # I recommend you put the NT Domain name here security = share hosts allow = "your IP Subnet here" #### Check most of the config patterns from smb.conf.sample - you have to customize this file to suit your environment, anyway. Check to see if Samba is running. You can see this from the console if you run Samba from rc.d/samba.sh or using ps -ax and grep for smbd and nmbd Give the samba daemon a HUP and check from your Windoze PCs if you can see the FBSD box. I got this link which will help you, so you can actually read and make the changes to smb.conf step-by-step from the PC http://sunsite.auc.dk/samba/oreilly/using_samba/ Good luck! Quoting Gordon Zeigler : [000828 16:33]: Gordon Zeigler>Using numerous config combinations, I have yet to see the Samba workgroup, or its shares, in network neighborhood from NT and Win95/98 machines. Gordon Zeigler> Gordon Zeigler>Anyone have experience with this? Gordon Zeigler> Gordon Zeigler>Also, I've listed all the NT and Win95 machines on my lan in /etc/hosts. Though I cannot "see" the shares in Network Neighborhood, I've tried to mount the share by IP address and share name, and have gotten a prompt. After typing the password, I get an error "login not allowed from this machine."
