Apart from having to :)
ln -s /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin /var/tmp/mplayer_pre/share/mplayer/Skin
everything seems to work ok both with
make install WITH_OPTIMIZED_CFLAGS=1 WITHOUT_RUNTIME_CPUDETECTION=1 WITH_GTK1=1 PREFIX=/var/tmp/mplayer_pr
and
make install WITH_OPTIMIZED_CFLAGS=1 WITHOUT_RUNTIME_CPUDETECTION=1 WITH_GTK1=2 PREFIX=/var/tmp/mplayer_pr

It is also playing nice some files that, with the ports version of
mplayer where buggy.

But what happened to the right click menu ?
