What are you expecting to happen? Bells and whistles?

ppp ON myname>

Means you're ON. Switch to another terminal (ALT-F2, etc) and type:

$ ping www.yahoo.com

if you get...

PING www4.yahoo.com (204.71.200.69): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 204.71.200.69: icmp_seq=0 ttl=245 time=83.214 ms
64 bytes from 204.71.200.69: icmp_seq=1 ttl=245 time=79.335 ms
64 bytes from 204.71.200.69: icmp_seq=2 ttl=245 time=79.099 ms

...It's working. (Assumming DNS is functional. You can also ping
207.71.200.69)
