George, a few points:

Firstly, you posted to freebsd-doc, but you would be better off mailing
freebsd-questions, where there are lots of people who can assist you with
your installation questions. I have forwarded the e-mail on to
freebsd-questions for you.

Can I clarify what you are attempting to do? You have downloaded all (or
part of) FreeBSD, and you are trying to install it from floppies. Is this
correct?

You might find it easier to install from a DOS partition instead of
floppies. The installation document that you can find in the root directory
of the FreeBSD 2.2.7 release explains how to do this. This will certainly be
easier that using lots of floppies!

Another alternative is to buy FreeBSD on CD-ROM. You can buy the 4 CD-ROM
set from Walnut Creek (http://www.cdrom.com) or a cheap ($1.99?) basic CD-ROM
release from CheapBytes (http://www.cheapbytes.com).

Can you provide us with some more information:

1. What version of FreeBSD are you trying to install? 2.2.7? 3.0?

2. What parts of FreeBSD are you trying to install? Just the bin/ directory?
Or the entire release? (That would be a *lot* of floppies!)

It is true that some people find FreeBSD to be more difficult to install
than Windows95, but many people find exactly the opposite! It often comes
down to the combination of hardware that you have.

Hope this helps,
Graeme
