Happiness is finding the right serial cable combination out of four
buckets of cables to make the serial console set-up work (thanks
FreeBSD Handbook!).  I've included the output of boot -v below.

To first answer your questions above for context:

Yes, I'm using RAID 1 (mirroring, confirmed in the BIOS) and the RAID
is enabled.  I can actually test this by booting back into the 5.1 CDs and
loading the module off of the floppy I have from the vendor for that
version.

I tried Safe Mode after your recommendation and that did not appear to
solve the problem.

I'm noticing, after having the ability now to view the bootup, that I'm
receiving the following error:

"ar: HighPoint check1 failed"

Any ideas anyone?
