On which version FreeBSD did you try this? Any chance you can try a
4.0R bootflop (or put the card in a machine running 4.0) to see if it is
still not
 recognised? You might also want to try the 'dc' driver, as the 
man page lists "o   NetGear FA310-TX Rev. D1, D2 or D3 (PNIC 82c169)".
I don't have a NetGear card to test so it might help if you could give it 
a shot.
