Burned 9.3 release using
  dd if=FreeBSD-9.3-RELEASE-i386-memstick.img of=/dev/da0 bs=64k

Tried booting an amd athlon xp 2600+, asus a7n8xe-deluze mobo.

I get the spinning bar, then:
BTX Loader 1.00  BTX Version is 1.02
Consoles: internal video/keyboard
BIOS: Drive A: is Disk0
BIOS: Drive C: is Disk1

At this point it hangs.

Suggestions?
