IBM's OEMed LSI SAS RAID-controllers (in the blades) likes to have identical drives with identical firmware-revisions, before it even lets you create a RAID1. If not, I'd not bother with their stuff and just order Tyan-barebones right away. IMO, the low-end HP stuff is not worth the trouble - anything below DL360 is so cheap that I'd have problems calling it a "server" actually. I think I'd rather buy a DL380 from ebay - because those are rock- solid and use decent hardware.
