  Intel Etherexpress Pro 100B or 100+.  Very boring card.  Just plug it
in.  Driver is very robust, and card is fast.  See the archives.

  No "new" card/driver is going to be as good, because they haven't been
tested as long as the fxp has.  As far as I know, the tx driver (for the
Etherpower II) still has some issues.
