The bios has legacy support so its usb attached keyboard works until freebsd boots. Using this, I escaped to the loader prompt and added set hint.atkbd.0.flags="0x1" This is what a 5.5 installer does when you choose "Boot FreeBSD with USB keyboard" but the usb keyboard is not recognized.
