I didn't try this NIC on another releases than 7 current.

You're able to run it on HP Compaq nx9005 ?

I'm afraid there is something more broken than ath driver.  After
unplugging the card, I'm also getting on console:

ath0: ath_reset: unable to reset hardware; hal status 3229953940
ath0: hardware error; resetting
ath0: ath_chan_set: unable to reset channel 6 (2437 Mhz)
ath0: ath_reset: unable to reset hardware; hal status 3229953940
ath0: detached
