Although it involves sacrificing small animals, you might be able to
convice FreeBSD to talk to your IDE CDROM.  The interface is horribly
flakey and it may or may not work.  The best thing to do is to try it.
You can check to see if you got it by pressing ALT-F2 at the menu.  If it
says 'found a device of type CDROM' then you're good.  Otherwise, try
moving your CDROM to the slave device on your primary controller.

Needless to say, the SCSI CDROMs probe flawlessly. :)
