Sysinstall seems to be hapilly doing its job (via the kernel & mfsroot floppies) and pulls the install bits from NFS. Looks OK. But when booting the newly installed harddisk I get: block 0 is not a valid boot block. What makes me suspicious is that sysinstall reports a 255/255/63 geometry. Is this OK for a 2Gb disk? What I mean: does sysinstall on the alpha use this translation? I had expected it would use the values the drive returns. There is no BIOS translation stuff (ala PCs) that I'm aware of.
