I don't know about the OP but KDE need fam and the defaut is gamin, 
which is how fetchindex is setup. Anyone using KDE needs 
a "WITH_FAM_SYSTEM=fam" in order to have a fully functionl KDE. The 
best solution there is p5_Portindex.
