I would suggest to make clean in mrtg, pkg_delete libpng (all of them), make reinstall in libpng and mrtg again (in that order). This sounds like a conflict in versions for libpng (i.e. the one which was installed was made from an earlier version than the one which was used to compile mrtg with).
