Of course it was necessary, after the freeze it would have been too late fo=
r=20
getting this into 5.3-Release (which is a PITA to upgrade to anyway, but=20
without nice instructions how to maneuvre around the pitfalls). And people=
=20
have been asking for it repeatedly on more than one list (and on IRC).=20

Why the ports-freeze has to start in three days, given how huge the=20
5.3-RELEASE ToDo list still is, is a better question IMHO.

The PITA thing is a matter of personal opinion I guess, I wrote the=20
instructions in UPDATING so it would _not_ become a PITA to do the upgrade=
=20
and so people would _not_ be dumbstruck by things acting a bit offbeat when=
=20
they run them after the update the first few times.
