I have successfully download the FreeBSD 4.0 ISO-image, burnt a CDROM and installed it on my computer. While trying to setup "xdm" I found that it is not difficult to configure "xdm". The session tries to start but immediately stops and the "login/password" window is displayed again. I cannot find anything that could be the source of the problem, except by the "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-config" file that says in its last lines: ==================================================================== ! SECURITY: do not listen for XDMCP or Chooser requests ! Comment out this line if you want to manage X terminals with xdm DisplayManager.requestPort: 0 ==================================================================== even though I commented out the last line, I have not been able to make "xdm" to work. Do you have any ideas of what it is happening? ------ by the way: I copied the "xdm" file from version 3.4 on my 4.0 installation and it works perfectly. The only differences in the config files are the xdm-config lines listed above. /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/chooser is also a shorter file. ------ - ______ _ * / /###\ / \ __ /\ /\ * / ./#### \ * \__|_/ | | / \/ \ | b#####| * _ | __ | | __ = .. \____ \ \_\#####/ / \| / \ | | /\_\/ = \_| * \___\###/ * \_/\_/\__/\__\/_/\__/ = \______/ _ | | To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
