Currently we are trying to deploy FreeBSD on you must differentiate between FreeBSD and the services or applications you want to run. Just get the handbook from www.freebsd.org for FreeBSD and its services itself. You also can get the handbooks for Samba, CUPS ... at their web sites. > almost all the research labs the question is should we go for FreeBSD or > Linux (Redhat). So please provide me with some documents and lets > together make FreeBSD more widely used operating system. It will not matter whether you are using Linux or FreeBSD. You will always face the problem that you will have to understand the documentation before you can start a successful implementation. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. Now, this journey has not exactly been pleasant due to the lack of documentation. What I would like to propose is a document co-authored by myself and Antony Mawer on how to setup IPX/IP connectivity between Netware and freebsd. But, there is kind of problem here. Anthony Mawer and I have only been able to get the connectivity between Freebsd to work under the 4.X series and 6.X series. It has also been documented that IPX was broke early on in the 5.X series. So my question to all is do you think it would be worth the time to put together such documentation as I describe above?
