I tried this on a lot of ATAPI drives here, and I noticed that "cdcontrol eject" seems to work fine on all of them, while at least some of them don't seem to close the try upon "cdcontrol close". This may indeed be a firmware issue, and besides that I guess it's not really important (if I have to put a CD into the drive, I should also be able to hit the small button in order to close the tray...)
