pretty sure...  i can do another make install in /usr/src just to be sure...
since i'm not the only one having the problem, makes me think this is not the
problem.

the only thing config complained about was that "pseudo-device log" was
invalid.  i commented it, and have had no problems from syslogd.  otherwise
i'm using the same config i used with 2.2-stable.
