Are you sure the port is right? Tried cuaa0?
I have gotten my laptop (Dell Inspiron 8600) to talk to my phone (Nokia 821=
0)=20
and Pocket PC using IRDA.

I use ircomm though, ie
[inchoate 10:07] ~ >sudo ircomm -d /dev/cuad1 -y /dev/ptypv -v 2
discovered Nokia 8210, address=3D75a2, hints=3DPnP, Modem, Fax, Telephony, =
IrCOMM,=20
IrOBEX
query completed
115200 baud
LAP connected
comm connected

Now I can do, say,
[inchoate 10:12] ~ >cu -l /dev/ttypv -s 57600
can't open log file /var/log/aculog.
Connected
atz
OK
AT+CMGF=3D1
OK
AT+CMGS=3D"0403070726"

+CMGS: 221

OK

One this I have noticed is that my phone is *extremely* sensitive to=20
positioning which is rather annoying.. It has to be 15-20cm away otherwise =
it=20
won't work (closer is as bad as far away).
