Subject: pccard1: Card has no functions!

I've seen similar errors (problems with pcmcia on 5.x) posted to this
list before, but not this one specifically and no answers that would
help me. . .

I have a built-in wireless card that FreeBSD designates as pccard0. This
card works perfectly fine and I've never had any problems with it.

When I insert a pcmcia ethernet card, however, activation of pccard1
fails every time. I've tried this with several NICs, including a 3Com
Etherlink III 3C589D (old, but listed as supported) and a 3Com Megahertz
3CCFE574BT. Both NICs work fine in Windows 2000 and XP, and the
Etherlink III even works in Rhapsody (Mac OS X Server) DR2 for PC
Compatibles.

I've enabled the pcmcia and 3com drivers in my custom kernel, but I've
also tried this with the same result using a generic 5.3-RELEASE kernel.

Here's my dmesg:

Any ideas why pccard0 would work fine but activation of pccard1 would fail?

Thanks,
