take a look at:
# man ifconfig
# man YOUR_ETHERNET_ADAPTER
for the media options supported by the adapter
and in /etc/rc.conf
edit the line ifconfig line appending the 'media' and 'mediaopt' :
...
ifconfig_YOUR-ETH-ADAPTER-HERE="inet adapter_ip_address netmask
255.255.255.0 media your_media_selection_here madiaopt your_media_opt_here"
...
