Wow. In the interest of pursuing this to the death, could this error be
attributed to the partitioning of the drive?

Here's what I mean:

The BIOS defines the drive as:
Cylinders:779 Heads: 128 Sectors: 63 Total Sectors: 6281856 Mode: LBA

FreeBSD defines the drive as (when set to dangerously dedicated?):
Cylinders: 391 Heads: 255 Sectors: 63 Total Sectors: 6281415

Could my problem be related to the disk geometry incorrectly set?
