=3D make one of them use a different irq, you might get better results.

I could not configure the BIOS to do that, but I could tell it to not
assign the video card an IRQ, even if asks for one.

This allowed me to get the X-server up without the DRI. I was thus back
to where I was with April's kernel.

Interestingly, when I tried to enable the "freetype" module (nothing
to do with hardware, right?), the X-server would not come up...

What allowed me to enable the dri module, was rebuilding the kernel
without the echi-device (USB-2). echi0 is what used to share the IRQ-17
with the video card.

However, enabling freetype module is still not possible.

That enabling freetype makes any difference at all suggests, the problem
is not with hardware, but with some race in the X driver, that is won or
lost depending on the modules enabled, and their initialization...
