I dunno if this of interest, but it seems that the Windows 2000 boot
loader is quite at home booting FreeBSD 3.1. On my test system at
home I now have a quad-boot setup comprising:

Windows 2000 beta3 workstation build 2031
Windows NT 4.0 SP4 workstation
FreeBSD 3.1
MS-DOS 6.2

The Windows 2000 (W2K) install/upgrade leaves any existing settings
in NT4's boot.ini file intact, adding boot instructions for W2K.

I have my FreeBSD 3.1 o/s installed on the second partition on the
first drive in my system, MS-DOS is on the first. NT4/W2K live on the
second drive. I DD'ed the FreeBSD bootblock as per the handbook so
that I could use the NT4 bootloader to boot NT/FreeBSD when I
installed FreeBSD. W2K was added after I got NT4/FreeBSD dual-boot
working. This may have a bearing for pure W2K/FreeBSD dual-boot
systems.

Whether or not the W2K bootloader will change between now and the
final release of W2K I obviously can't say, but I can't see any
reason why it should. The implication (so far) is that ultimately a
W2K/FreeBSD dual-boot system using the W2K bootloader seems viable,
as is the case now with NT4.

It's worth noting that the W2K installation process viewed my FreeBSD
partition as either unknown or corrupt. Care is clearly the order of
the day here during the installation.

In the meantime, I hope that the above is of interest.

Regards

Clem
