There had been some discussion and concern about the protocol
incompatabilies. There was even some discussion if rdist was needed
in the base system any more.  It would still be available as a
port.

There are alternatives (rsync), but I still don't think they fill
rdist's shoes for complex, or even some simple (dependant on your
experience with rdist) tasks:

( /etc/aliases ) -> ( alpha beta gamma cosmic )
	install		/etc/aliases;
	special		"/usr/sbin/newaliases";

I think you'd need a wrapper to do this successfully with rsync,
which really is a lot more work than writing a Distfile.
