SATA HDD performance on my machine is less than stellar as well. The IRQ the SATA controller sits on is also given to the TI FireWire controller on my SB Audigy, and I haven't gotten around to putting that in a different slot and seeing if that changes anything. It would have been nice for PCs to have gone to a full 5 bits for IRQ instead of just hacking things up by adding 2^3 to the existing 2^4 as was done. Shared bus architectures, I spit on them all.
