Frankly, that's exactly what I do. Every time I change my password I come up with a password of at least 10 characters, all random with mixed capitilization and alpha/numeric, symbolic characters and write it down on a slip of paper - which I keep in my wallet. After typing it nine or 10 times one can memorize it pretty well.
