For what it's worth, I have been running 6.x-stable on my mini, and haven't seen any dramatic problems with it. No panics, and I think fsck's have worked okay for me the few times I've done one. But to be honest, I am not sure that I have done all that many fsck's. I also have the line: background_fsck="NO" in my /etc/rc.conf file, on all my machines. But that's just because I am sometimes testing some of my own changes, and I just feel better to have one fsck complete before I trip over whatever caused the initial crash... -- Garance Alistair Drosehn = gad@gilead.netel.rpi.edu Senior Systems Programmer or gad@freebsd.org Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or drosih@rpi.edu From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Mar 28 17:24:55 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7475716A525 for ; Tue, 28 Mar 2006 17:24:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from cokane@mail.cokane.org) Received: from smtp3.fuse.net (mail-out3.fuse.net [216.68.8.176]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 38D6043D8C for ; Tue, 28 Mar 2006 16:48:19 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from cokane@mail.cokane.org) Received: from gx6.fuse.net ([216.196.181.22]) by smtp3.fuse.net (InterMail vM.6.01.04.04 201-2131-118-104-20050224) with ESMTP id <20060328164819.ZQCJ15584.smtp3.fuse.net@gx6.fuse.net> for ; Tue, 28 Mar 2006 11:48:19 -0500 Received: from mail.cokane.org ([216.196.181.22]) by gx6.fuse.net (InterMail vG.1.02.00.02 201-2136-104-102-20041210) with ESMTP id <20060328164819.OPCY4722.gx6.fuse.net@mail.cokane.org> for ; Tue, 28 Mar 2006 11:48:19 -0500 Received: (qmail 19219 invoked by uid 1000); 28 Mar 2006 11:44:48 -0500 Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2006 11:44:48 -0500 From: Coleman Kane To: Torfinn Ingolfsen Message-ID: <20060328164448.GA19215@pint.candc.home> References: <20051016012933.GB31458@absinthe.tinho.net> <4351BBF3.8060003@freebsd.org> <20051016221757.25173ba2.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <4352C8E1.5090907@freebsd.org> <4352E005.4040203@freesbie.org> <4352E75B.60302@freebsd.org> <20060326183947.38803c83.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <20060327180523.GA18477@pint.candc.home> <20060327222201.5162ce64.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20060327222201.5162ce64.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.11 Cc: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: SMP; autoboot X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2006 17:24:55 -0000 What about convert (from ImageMagick)? http://www.imagemagick.org/script/convert.php On Mon, Mar 27, 2006 at 10:22:01PM +0200, Torfinn Ingolfsen wrote: > On Mon, 27 Mar 2006 13:05:23 -0500 > Coleman Kane wrote: > > > Ever tried the GIMP ? > > Yep. If FreeBSD PPC "basically works" (up to the point that people are messing around with Ports) then what *EXACTLY* is the hold-up with booting this on PegasosPPC? NetBSD have expressed some interest in providing a "firmware abstracted" approach using the OF and RTAS (and in future Genesi extensions) and we have a couple bugs to fix, but I didn't think the FreeBSD direction was the same - instead going for booting, native drivers (all Pegasos devices barring Gigabit Ethernet are supported in FreeBSD i386). Is there a sticky point like a kernel panic, firmware bug, lack of documentation, lack of help from Genesi team etc. that we can sit down and solve together? I'd also like to get some clarification of who in the FreeBSD team has a Pegasos or ODW, and if it's in use or not (see above). You'll have to find someone who's willing to do the device (and probably loader) support. I'm sure I've mentioned before, I'm snowed under trying to get other things going. G5 support would be nice given it's been out for a number of years now :( > I'd also like to get some clarification of who in the FreeBSD team has a Pegasos > or ODW, and if it's in use or not (see above). I don't have one. later, Peter.
