first time only:

    cd /usr/src/gnu/usr.bin/binutils
    cvs -qR up -D '1/27/2002 11:55 UTC'
    cd /usr/src/contrib/binutils
    cvs -qR up -D '1/27/2002 11:55 UTC'

first time and each time after:

    cd /usr/src
    cvs -qR up -Pd

Do NOT use the -A flag to 'up'.
