I believe you gotta use mountd -n on the FreeBSD side. I connected a PC under DOS/Windows 3.11 recently to a FreeBSD box using a shareware NFS client (XFS32 - obtainable from robertj@lwfws1@uni-paderborn.de) and I had to run mountd -n otherwise I had authentication problems.
