/usr/local/etc/sendmail. Just a thought.
At home/work I keep my Sendmail config stuff under CVS. I then check it out,
fiddle with it, commit it. I've got a Makefile which then
o Ensures that the appropriate .mc files are checked out of the
source repository and are local.
o Builds sendmail.cf, aliases, virtusertable.db and so on.
o Runs some test e-mail addresses through these to ensure that they are
processed correctly.
o Installs sendmail.cf into /etc, and the rest into
/usr/local/etc/sendmail.
The wonders of CVS can then be used to ensure that all the local admins
are kept up to speed on changes to the sendmail configuration.
Copies of this Makefile available on request (to nik@freebsd.org), it's
even reasonably well commented. Should someone want to tidy it up and
commit it, feel free.
