when people commit stuff and put stuff like `fixes bug xxx' would it
be possible to put a short comment in describing the bug. often I see
bug reports go by that I forget about, and knowing that such & such
files were changed and the bug is nada would be good to know :)

I'd like to echo this. I've been getting VERY ANNOYED by the commit
messages that just say `PR #N'. The CVS commit logs are supposed to
contain useful info. It's okay to reference a PR, but that shouldn't
be the bulk of the commit message.
