Well, I've just sent SIGTERMS to inetd and then started it again:

  ps aux | grep inetd
  kill <pid>
  inetd

64 MB swap isn't much by modern standards.  One theory is that the
inetd problem relates to running out of swap, but I've just had it
(yesterday) with no swap problems since boot.  But then, I'm running
with 550 MB of swap.
